Fiji Adventure Honeymoons
For couples for whom watching a beautiful tropical sunset just isn't enough, Fiji offers a romantic adventure vacation alternative. This kind of honeymoon provides the honeymoon couple with the opportunity to not only to enjoy each other but to enjoy a range of active adventures as well as experience more naturally the ' real Fiji '. To some, life is seen as an adventure in itself. For others it is simply the opportunity to visit countries to which they have not previously travelled. Generally, however, an adventure vacation is seen as one with lots of activities including - maybe - some before attempted! It also means experiencing new things such as different cultures and lifestyles. Fiji has all this and more!
"The traveler was active; he went strenuously in search of people, of adventure, of experience. The tourist is passive; he expects interesting things to happen to him. He goes sight-seeing"
Daniel J. Boorstin (American social historian and educator, 1914)
Where to find adventure destinations in Fiji
- Fiji's northern region is known for its lush islands, friendly people, laid-back lifestyle and soft adventure activities. Perhaps the most favourite destination is Taveuni, also called the 'garden island'. It offers land-based and water-based activities, from hiking, birdwatching and waterfall trips, to world-renowned scuba diving, sport fishing, jet skis, kayaking and snorkelling. Maravu Plantation Beach Resort & Spa is a favourite here. This 88-acre plantation property also has free horseback riding for its guests. It is well-known as a honeymoon resort, as is neighbouring Taveuni Island Resort and Taveuni Palms luxury retreat. More modest options include the Garden Island Resort further along the coast, and the new Paradise resort near Vuna is another Taveuni adventure honeymoon option.
- Savusavu on neighbouring Vanua Levu island is an adventure hub, with a quaint colonial outpost of a town overlooking a marina dotted with visiting and resident sailing yachts, and the Savusavu Bay beyond. Choose between upmarket resorts such as Namale and the Jean-Michel Cousteau resort, to boutique retreats such as La Dolce Vita villas, to beachfront rentals such Tropic Splendour. The Tui Tai Adventure ship runs cruises out of Savusavu, that take in the best of Savusavu, Taveuni and this northern region.
- If you feel like an adventure afloat, there are small ship cruise operators that primarily focus on the Yasawa and Mamanuca islands, such as Captain Cook Cruises and Blue Lagoon Cruises. As you cruise through the islands, every day will bring different adventures.
- Kadavu Island in the far south of Fiji is also well-known as an adventure destination. It is more remote and slightly less-travelled than Fiji's north, with access to many resorts being by boat rather than road, due to the craggy highlands interior. Nagigia Island Resort offers surfing adventures, while in the eastern section, resorts focus on scuba diving on the Great Astrolabe reef. Also enjoy visiting unspoiled villages, birdwatching (rare species here), kayaking, and fishing. Honeymoon resorts include Matana, Matava, Tiliva and Papageno. There are no 5-star luxury resorts here.
- On the mainland, Pacific Harbour is often called the "adventure capital of Fiji" due to its access to river rafting, diving the Beqa Lagoon dive sites (shark-feeding dives also available), ocean kayaking and sport and game fishing. The top honeymoon accommodation here is probably the Pearl South Pacific right on the beach. They also operate the 18-hole championship golf course. There is also the Lagoon Resort (on the inland lake connected to the ocean by waterways), plus a variety of other smaller options and budget options.
Enjoy life, enjoy each other, and enjoy all that Fiji has to offer.
